On behalf of our client, an international non-profit organisation driving digital standardisation in global logistics, Human Investment Management is looking for a freelance IT Operations Manager. You will be responsible for the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all digital systems and data, and for the efficient delivery of IT services across the organisation.
About the assignment
You will work with internal and external resources to support the organisation’s business operations, its standards development and its go-to-market activities. You are also accountable for the IT budget and for contracting, governing IT resources and vendor relationships.
What you will do
Team management
- Manage the internal IT support function, providing direction, guidance and development to the Support Engineer
- Set clear objectives, scope and project and technical guidance, and foster a collaborative environment
IT operations
- Oversee daily IT operations, including infrastructure, applications, service desk and network performance
- Oversee the implementation of ITSM-based processes for incident, problem, knowledge and change management
- Monitor system performance and proactively address risks, vulnerabilities and capacity issues
- Lead IT continuity, disaster recovery and backup strategies
Vendor management
- Manage vendor selection, onboarding and performance reviews for IT products and services
- Negotiate contracts, SLAs and pricing to maximise value and minimise risk
- Build strong relationships with strategic IT vendors, service providers and partners
- Ensure vendor compliance with security, regulatory and operational standards, and report on vendor performance
Budget, security and innovation
- Develop and manage the IT operations budget for hardware, software, cloud services and vendor contracts
- Implement and enforce cybersecurity measures and ensure compliance with GDPR and ISO 27001, together with the CISO
- Identify opportunities to adopt emerging technologies such as AI and automation, and streamline IT processes
What you bring
- You live in the Netherlands and have freelance experience in the Netherlands (required)
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field; a Master’s in IT Management or Business Administration is a plus
- At least 7 years of experience in IT operations or systems administration
- Proven experience with IT budgeting and vendor contract management
- Expert knowledge of AWS cloud infrastructure, tools and operations
- Hands-on experience running an IT operations function in a similar-sized organisation, including end-user compute, asset management and supporting engineering teams operating SaaS platforms
- In-depth knowledge of ITSM frameworks (e.g. ITIL) and tools (e.g. ServiceNow, Zendesk, Jira Service Management), including configuring workflows, approvals, routing, automation, service targets and reporting
- Familiarity with cybersecurity good practice and compliance standards, including ISO 27001
- Strong communication skills: you translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders
- Exposure to the maritime logistics industry is a plus, but not essential
