Interim Head of Finance

  • Interim
  • Utrecht

Do you want to use your finance leadership to make a meaningful impact? On behalf of our client, an international investment manager with a strong focus on sustainable finance and impact investing, Human Investment Management is looking for an experienced Interim Head of Finance.

This is an existing role that was restructured earlier this year, with responsibilities raised to a more senior level. Our client is looking for an interim professional who can provide continuity and leadership during the next phase of development and transformation.

About the assignment

As Interim Head of Finance, you will lead the Finance team through an important period of transition. Your focus is on business continuity, delivering the annual accounts, helping the team move from the current operating model to the future target state, and strengthening the business control function.

You will guide the department through ongoing changes, including the outsourcing of operational activities, improvements to the data infrastructure and further professionalisation of finance processes. As a strategic partner to leadership, you help shape the future of Finance while preserving a collaborative, people-oriented culture.

Success in this role takes more than strong financial leadership. Our client is looking for a leader who is approachable, authentic and able to build trust: not a highly corporate profile, but someone who combines professionalism with empathy and pragmatism.

What you will do

  • Provide interim leadership and ensure continuity and stability in the Finance function
  • Lead and coach a team of 12–13 professionals across Accounting, Reporting, Control and Oversight
  • Oversee financial management, reporting and control processes for accuracy, compliance and efficiency
  • Own the timely delivery of the annual accounts and related reporting obligations
  • Guide the team through the transition from the current to the future operating model
  • Develop and implement a finance strategy aligned with the organisation’s mission and long-term goals
  • Drive budgeting and support business cases for new products and initiatives
  • Strengthen internal controls and audit readiness, and proactively identify and mitigate risks
  • Advise and challenge senior management on financial matters as a trusted business partner
  • Lead change and innovation, using technology, BI tools and data infrastructure to improve finance processes and insights
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on financial goals and governance

What you bring

  • A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, with a relevant qualification (RA, RC, CPA or CMA)
  • At least 9–10 years of experience in financial services, including 4–5 years in a managerial or interim leadership role
  • A proven track record as an independent interim professional, preferably in the Dutch financial sector
  • Experience leading finance teams through organisational change and transformation
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Dutch and international financial regulation, particularly in asset management
  • Strong experience with financial reporting, governance, risk management and audit processes
  • Experience with process improvement and outsourcing is highly valued
  • A strategic, analytical and technology-minded approach, with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to balance results and people, and to bring teams along during periods of change
  • A genuine commitment to sustainable finance and a mission-driven organisation
  • A leadership style that is approachable, collaborative and trust-building

Key competencies

  • Change leadership. Leading teams through uncertainty, communicating a clear vision and creating buy-in.
  • Strategic thinking. Aligning financial decisions with organisational priorities and assessing the financial impact of change.
  • Stakeholder management. Building trusted relationships with senior leadership, board members, auditors and external partners.
  • Operational excellence. Maintaining business continuity and compliance throughout periods of transition.
  • Analytical skills. Identifying risks and opportunities and making data-driven decisions.
  • People leadership. Coaching and motivating finance professionals and building a resilient, collaborative culture.
